UCC Strong Fund Preparing to Assist Those Affected by Tragedy
Committee is being finalized, distribution details still being determined
Roseburg, OR (October 15, 2015) — The boards of the Umpqua Community College Foundation and Greater Douglas United Way have ratified the creation of a committee to oversee dispersal of donations from the UCC Strong Fund.
The UCC Strong Fund was created to meet the unmet needs of the shooting victims, their families and those affected by the tragedy at Umpqua Community College on October 1. No administrative costs will be drawn from the fund, which is nearing $500,000.
Leadership from The Ford Family Foundation, Umpqua Community College Foundation, Greater Douglas United Way and Oregon Community Foundation are assembling a committee to determine a process for fund distribution.
“The goal is to assemble a group of local leaders in order for there to be a process that is fair to the victims and helps our community heal.” UCC Strong Fund spokesman Brian Prawitz said. “Everyone involved feels a sense of urgency. However, it takes time to establish a system to distribute this money responsibly.”
The committee’s first action will be to determine the distribution process.
UCC Strong continues to collect donations through the Umpqua Community College Foundation, Greater Douglas United Way, and a myriad of other fundraisers and individual contributions.
