All five attempts at holes-in-one for big money fell short, but the 28 local United Way agencies were still winners at the 34th Annual Dave Johnson Memorial Golf Tournament.
With a large field and perfect weather at the Roseburg Country Club Thursday, the team of Neal Brown, Joe Fausett, Kermit Reich, and Clayton Reinhart took top prize with a round of 54, while Trevor Kinney, Rusty Mentes, Justin Bruggeman, and JR Guthrie took first with a net 39.
Four golfers – Neal Brown, Garrett Stembridge, Matt Fullerton, and David Littlejohn – all missed their
$50,000 hole-in-one attempts and Brian Prawitz could not convert on his shot for $1 million. Videos of all five hole-in-one attempts can be viewed on the Greater Douglas United Way Facebook page.
“It was another successful tournament,” said GDUW Executive Director Bryan Trenkle. “Our sponsors and all of the golfers brought their ‘A-game’ and it showed. Everyone involved gave generously to help strengthen key agencies in Douglas County.”
The Dave Johnson Memorial Golf Tournament raises funds for the United Way fundraising campaign, benefitting 28 local non-profit member agencies and dozens of other local non-profits.
The popular tournament was named after Dave Johnson, a long-time supporter of Greater Douglas United Way, who died of cancer in 2012.
Major Sponsors this year were Umpqua Bank, US Bank, Banner Bank and Kelley Imaging.
Closest to the Pin was sponsored by The News Review. The $50,000 Contest was sponsored by Hanson Jewelers and the $1,000,000 shot was sponsored by Tom & JoAnn Nelson. The Tournament Hole-In-One Contests were sponsored by Umpqua Insurance.
